The first time I heard someone say try ground turkey instead of ground beef, I wasn’t sold on the idea. That was years ago. My husband decided we needed to cut back on our red meat consumption. I had heard people talk about turkey instead of beef, so I finally gave in to the thought. When I tell you, my family didn’t blink twice. I used the turkey to make spaghetti, and they never knew the difference. So I decided to try it with a homemade turkey burger.

Well, my all-to-in-touch with her feelings daughter was the person to ask questions; she noticed a difference. “Mommy, what kind of hamburger is this? It’s so soft and juicy” “Did you use a baby cow instead of a big cow?” I think she was seven at the time.

Needless to say, when I told her it was turkey, she didn’t believe me. She thought we only had turkey at Thanksgiving. But it’s been a hit at my house for years. I hope you try it. It’s easier to digest and cheaper than beef. Here is the homemade turkey burger recipe you’ll enjoy.

This homemade turkey burger recipe is so easy to make. It is so juicy and unexpectedly flavourful. I make this when I want a burger that's not made of beef.

Ingredients
 
 

  • Turkey Mince1 pound ground turkey (minced turkey)
  • Ripe Yellow Onion On A White Background½ medium yellow onion - diced
  • Glass Bowl Of Olive Oil Isolated On White Background½ tablespoon olive oil
  • Kosher Salt1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Ground Black Pepper Pile, Paths, Top1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Dried Garlic1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Onion Powder1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Worcestershire Sauce2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Raw Egg Yolk Isolated On White Backgroundraw Egg Yolk Isolated On White Background1 medium egg yolk

Instructions
 

  • Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Pat out 5 equal-sized patties.
  • Let rest 5 minutes before cooking. Lightly coat the grill pan with high-heat oil, such as canola or grape seed oil. Heat grill pan on high until a smoke point is reached.
  • . Place patties down on the grill, allowing them to cook for about 10 minutes before attempting to flip the burger. If your burger sticks to the pan, you are moving too fast.
  • Slow down and let the burger tell you when it is ready to be flipped. Once you flip the burger, do not flatten it. If you do these things to the burger, you will have a big sizzle in the pan and a dry hard burger on your plate! Trust me; I used to squeeze all the juices out; this is from experience; I know what I am talking about.
